Since John Busch became our President, January of this year, A light has come on and it’s shining directly, brightly on individual members. We have had 4 spotlight members so far, beginning with Gene (Chef) Chavez — also a photographer — he put together the collage of John that you see here; then Lynn Wilkinson a long-time Austin Realtor with Coldwell Banker; Joyce Michaels with Austin Custom Errands was next; and now Marilyn Nichols with Happy Puppy Tutoring.

What I see happening here, is just what John said he wanted to do: We are fulfilling our Vision Statement by actively acknowledging our members and — with purpose — helping to promote them and advance their businesses. This goes ‘way BEYOND your typical networking.

Question:  When do you get the most bang for the buck at a CPA office?

Answer:  When you call your CPA before you make a financial decision.

Examples:

• Choose the business entity (proprietorship, corporation, LLC) that best fits the ownership and business strategy.  Some kinds require more tax return preparation, and therefore, more fees, than other types.  Allow us to discuss the options before you and your attorney make the final decision.
• Before you finalize your divorce agreement, discuss with your attorney and your CPA the way that tax return information and liability will be handled in the year of divorce.
• Classify workers correctly.  Follow the IRS guidelines when engaging contract workers and employees.
• Call your CPA when you need a referral to other business services, such as attorneys in various specialties, professional bookkeepers, insurance, marketing, senior services.
• Contact your CPA in years of unusually low income.  The CPA may have good ideas to help you receive income or reposition assets with little or no tax cost.
• Allow your CPA to help you work out financial and tax strategies related to aging parents, wealth transfer, college students, exercise of employer stock options, gifts, sale of residence, and more!
